The Gay Games is an international event that promotes equality in competition for the LGBT community. Originally founded in San Francisco in 1982 as the Gay Olympics, the Gay Games continue to occur every 4 years in tune with the Olympics. The 1994 Gay Games outsized their more well-known competitor with around 1500 more athletes -- a feat that occurred as the Gay Games took place in NYC, on the anniversary of the Stonewall Riots.
