Expert Advice:

CARING FOR YOUR JEANS

In order to preserve the color of your jeans, hand wash in cold or dry clean. If you machine wash, do so in cold and turn your jeans inside out.
To retain the original shape of your jeans, we suggest hang drying. If you must machine dry, use the lowest possible setting in order to avoid shrinkage.

FINDING THE RIGHT FIT

If your jeans are a little too tight when you first try them on, they are probably perfect! All denim stretches -- your jeans will give a little as you wear them.
Leg openings of 13" and below work for tucking into boots. Anything larger and you may get a gathered effect.

ALTERING YOUR JEANS

When you need to get your jeans hemmed, take them to a tailor that specializes in denim alterations. Ask for the "original bottom" to be used on your jeans; it will cost a few dollars more, but it's worth it! If you intend to wash and dry your jeans, do so before having them altered.
TIP: Bring the shoes you'd like to wear your jeans with to the tailor for the best results.

Denim Terminology

Raw Denim:

Jeans that are unwashed or dry processed (without water). Raw jeans are broken in by the wearer and get softer over time.

Selvage (sometimes selvedge):

Denim with a clean, natural edge that tends to be sturdier, often made on old-style shuttle looms. A longer and more costly process, selvage denim tends to be pricier and more desirable to denim afficianados.

Leg Opening:

Refers to the width of the ankle of the jean. A 12" leg opening would denote a "skinny-leg" jean, while a 14-16" leg opening would denote a "straight-leg" jean. Boot cuts tend to be around 18", flares tend to be around 20", and bells above 22".

Indigo:

A dye with a distinctive blue color.
